How paid Discord memberships work
Connect Stripe, choose a Discord role, set your membership price and share your link. Memberalia assigns the paid role after Stripe confirms payment and removes it when the membership entitlement ends. Your members keep using the Discord server they already know.
Discord roles define access to channels. Stripe records billing. Memberalia connects the two with a membership record that understands renewals, payment grace periods and the end of a paid period. You do not need a new community platform or a separate website builder.
Set up your paid area
- Create a membership role in Discord, such as Premium Member.
- Restrict your paid channels to that role. Leave welcome and support channels accessible where appropriate.
- Install Memberalia and place its bot role above the membership role.
- Connect your own Stripe account through Stripe Connect.
- Create a plan, map its roles and publish your hosted membership page.
- Test the page with an ordinary Discord account before sharing it widely.
Channel permissions are configured in Discord. Memberalia changes roles; it does not rewrite your server permissions. Check category inheritance and explicit channel overrides, because a paid role cannot protect a channel that everyone can already read.
Connect the right member before checkout
The buyer first connects a Discord identity using OAuth. Memberalia stores the immutable Discord user ID, so a later username change does not break access. The buyer then pays using Stripe Checkout. If the buyer is not in your server, the completion page can provide a server invite and synchronization retries after they join.
A receipt alone is not proof that a particular Discord account belongs to the payer. Linking identity before checkout avoids manually matching emails to changing usernames. Members can use the purchase completion page to check their membership and reach billing management.
Map one plan to several roles
Start with one clear offer. A €29/month Premium plan might grant Premium Member. A higher tier can grant Premium Member and VIP Lounge together. If a member has two valid memberships that grant the same role, ending one membership does not remove access still required by the other.
Example prices are illustrations, not revenue predictions. Choose benefits you can deliver consistently: a focused discussion space, a recurring working session, research updates or direct access to your expertise. Monthly, annual or lifetime access
Monthly and annual subscriptions renew through Stripe. One-time plans grant lifetime access after payment. Lifetime access has no automatic renewal date, so explain what the purchase covers and how long you expect to maintain the community. A full refund of a one-time purchase ends its entitlement.
Changing a public plan price creates a new Stripe Price when needed. Existing subscriptions are not silently moved to a different amount. Review your active subscriber commitments before changing the offer for new customers.
Minimum Discord permissions
Memberalia requests Manage Roles, not Administrator. It will not assign administrator roles, integration-managed roles, the everyone role, or roles at or above its own highest role. Validation happens when you select the role and again when synchronization applies it.
If setup reports “Move the Memberalia bot role above Premium Member to continue,” open Server Settings → Roles and change that order. Do not solve a role hierarchy issue by giving the bot Administrator. Read the permission guide before installation.
What happens after payment?
Payment is only the beginning. Memberalia keeps a separate membership entitlement so temporary billing problems, scheduled cancellations and provider retries produce the right access decision.

Members use Stripe Customer Portal to update payment details or cancel. A cancellation scheduled for next month does not remove access today. Background reconciliation runs every six hours, and creators can request a synchronization from their workspace.
What does it cost?
Memberalia Starter costs €19/month for 100 active paid members and one community. Growth costs €39/month for 500 members and three communities. Pro costs €79/month for 2,500 members and ten communities. All include a 14-day trial and a 0% Memberalia platform transaction fee. Stripe processing fees apply separately.
Payments are created on your connected Stripe account. Memberalia does not hold your community revenue. Its own SaaS subscription is billed separately. Compare your expected cost using the fee calculator, then check plan limits.
Check the whole membership lifecycle before launch
Use a test customer to complete checkout, confirm the correct identity receives access, schedule a cancellation and check the paid-through date. Test failed-payment recovery too. If the provider is temporarily unavailable, the activity log should explain the error and synchronization should repair it after the underlying problem is resolved.
Keep a member support route visible. Payment automation cannot explain your community promise, moderate conversations or replace the value members subscribe for. Memberalia focuses on the payment-to-access handoff.
